“So tell us a little about yourself!” Isn’t that how the interview usually starts? You would think I would have a good answer to that question by now, but it always leaves me wondering, “Where do I start?” The fact is, that if you’re reading this, you might already know quite a bit about me. My name is Malinda, but you are more likely to call me Mindy. You might know that I’ve lived my entire life in the eastern suburbs of Columbus, Ohio and that I taught public school music (middle school band, choir, general, and elementary general) for sixteen years. I now teach those who will someday be teachers and adults who are continuing their education.
You may or may not know that I am a Buckeye through and through (although not an obnoxious one), with a Bachelor’s, Masters, and Ph.D. from Ohio State University (see, I didn’t even put in the obnoxious THE). My degrees are all in music education, but I’m also very interested in history, sociology, philosophy, and how they all intersect in the areas of music education and education as a whole. I’m passionate about questioning why things are the way they are. This doesn’t necessarily mean that I think everything needs to change – but I do think it’s dangerous to exist in the status quo without ever thinking about other possibilities. At the same time, we can’t change just for the sake of changing. I believe it’s imperative to consider varying perspectives, because chances are someone is experiencing life differently than I am.
Finally, I hope you know that faith and family are important to me. I’m married to my wonderful, patient husband, Robert, and together we raise our two beautiful daughters, Emily and Rachael.
If this is all new to you, then I thank you for taking the time to find out about me. I hope you’ll come back so that you can get to know me better.

Im so happy that I have found one of your inspiring blog. It really lighten me up to do and exert more effort in me. I have registered this username a year ago and i did not continue writing articles because I find it, NO ONE IS READING OR EVEN LIKING IT. I feel depress, so i decided to focus on my study. After reading your blog about what u have accomplished in blogging for a month, it really helps me to BELIEVE in myself. I wanted to express feelings to my readers, to communicate with them through my blogs, to share thoughts and ideas “NOT TO DISCOURAGED ME” but to tell me that ITS NOT DISCRIMINATION… BUT A TRIAL FOR ME TO BE BETTER…. tnx so much MA’AM/TEACHER/PRO…
Conz….
P.S… I’m still in college.. very busy sometimes.. hehehe….
I’m glad to have found your blog. Keep up the good work.
Nice to meet you um a blogger too. I subscribed your blog!!!
BYe
I too found you through FP. what I have read so far interests me very much. I would like to know you. I too thought that it didn’t matter if someone read my blog or not. But it does. and I really like to get comments. I don’t get too many. I am afraid my posts are not all that well written. but they are from my heart and soul. I do not share the blog with many of my family and friends. My husband has the address but doesn’t read it too much. he said he finds it depressing. I suppose that is understandable if you read some of what is written about him and the cercumstance he placed our marrage, and me in.
I have just begun sort of a new faith journey that does not include the guilt that comes from other people and the church. I will be addressing more of that in my blog in the future. (at least I hope to)
I would love to hear from you. and I would love you to read my blog.
thanks

wow, 3 degree? i’m still working toward one xd.
Very nice “about me” page. I don’t think I’ve ever been so impressed with an “about me” on another’s blog before. Aside from the music part (although I was in chorus for 6 years in middle school and high school), I am interested in all those things you mentioned such as why things are they way they are and all the possibilities that lie out there. I’m a soc and psy major so I’m pretty into that stuff.
Can’t wait to read more!
Thanks for your feedback – I appreciate it!
I wish I could play an instrument. I can not! But I am reading The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Music Theory. It’s not easy reading. 🙂
You have drawn me in enough to subscribe. I look forward to reading more when I can. Congrats on being featured front page! 🙂
Thank you!
Wow – I only hope to be a music teacher one day – right now just a sporadic teacher of one 7 year old boy; when I get my life better in order, I plan to teach many more than that – the joy of music is an amazing gift to share!
Hi Mindy! I’m so glad that I found you through FP. I love what you have to say, and am thoroughly impressed you went through that many years of education. I’m still in school, and I can’t imagine how hard it must’ve been!
My mother is a music teacher (though without the same credentials you have) and I have to say, being a music teacher can’t be easy. Good luck with life and blogging! Thank you so much for sharing.
I happened upon your blog from subscribing to Freshly Pressed on WordPress. We’ve been blogging for 2 and a half years now, and we are continually amazed that people want to read what we have to say, and then come back! Amazing. Thank you for sharing your life and passion with us. I think I (Debi) may come back for another visit, when I have some time to look around. 🙂
Cheers,
Debi Walter

Thanks and please do! I’ll be checking yours out more, too!
Everything really does happen for a reason! I thought that the letters behind your name meant that you were a psychologist or a therapist. You write like that. I also stumbled across a lady who liked your page and she reminded me of a domestic violence councelor I once knew. She even had the same first name I believe… judith. 🙂 I don’t know what’s going on for sure, but I do know that I am reaching out in my grief and sadness to those who seem to know a little something about it. or maybe I’m just too afraid to go see my father.
No, my PhD is in music education. But I like to think about things and have done a lot of it in the past few years as I tried to figure out – well, life. I think we can learn a lot from each other just through sharing our experiences – so that’s what I do 🙂
I’m so glad you do. I’m still reading your blog and enjoying it very much. God bless you, friend.

I’m enjoying your site, Mindy, and have had a similar blogging experience. Glad to get to know you better. Since you’re a woman of faith, you might enjoy the testimony I just posted on behalf of a friend–God really is answering prayers today. I think I titled it something like, “Servant Released and Transported Away.” I hope it uplifts you as much as it did me.
I will be back again! 😀
Thank you! Do you have a link to your post?
Great about, and great photos, too! Congrats on Freshly Pressed!
It was nice visiting your site Mindy.. I love the candid style! 🙂
